The Edexcel BTEC HNC in Engineering provides a specialist work-related programme of study that covers the key knowledge, understanding and practical skills required in the Engineering sector. You will study the General Engineering pathway which is made up of both electrical - Electronic and Mechanical modules.

During the course of the year you will cover eight units. These units will be set by your tutor and may include:

  • Engineering Design
  • Engineering Maths
  • Engineering Science
  • Managing a Professional Engineering Project
  • Renewable Energy
  • Electrical and Electronic Principles
  • Digital Principles
  • Computer Aided Design (CAD) for Engineering

You will be assessed by internal assignments set and marked by your tutors. Each individual unit is graded Pass (P), Merit (M) or Distinction (D).

The HNC in Engineering enables you to develop a wide range of skills related to the Engineering sector. This practical based course will include educational visits and you will lead on your own work-related project.

Bury College has excellent Engineering workshops and laboratories situated in a purposebuilt environment. You will benefit from weekly timetabled tutor-led classes and regular feedback on your academic progress.

There is the opportunity to progress onto an external Degree course in your chosen engineering field. The skills and knowledge you will develop will support progression within the industry.

Career opportunities include Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Civil Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering and many more pathways depending on your chosen progressions pathway.

You will also engage in the Positive Futures Careers Programme, developing key employability skills through a diverse range of activities including work placements, volunteering, employer talks, industry study visits and employment and university fairs.

64 UCAS points from at least two, but preferably three GCE A-levels or equivalent in subjects related to engineering such as a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering/Electrical and Electrical Engineering or an Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3) in Engineering. Applicants should also have the equivalent of five GCSEs at grade 9-4 (A*-C) including Maths and English.

The majority of students will be able to access a Tuition Fee Loan from Student Finance England to pay their HE Course Fee.

Self-funding students may pay in 3 instalments in September (25%), January (25%) and April (50%).
