On Wednesday 11th February, as part of National Apprenticeship Week celebrations, Bury College proudly hosted an Apprenticeship Star Awards Ceremony, recognising both current and former learners' hard work and commitment.

Highlighting the impact of Apprenticeships

The aim of National Apprenticeship Week is to shine a light on the positive impact that Apprenticeships make to individuals and businesses. The event encapsulated this, recognising the achievements of Apprentices at college, in the workplace and beyond.

Here are glowing quotes from some of the winners, along with their reasons for being nominated:

Holly Garbett, Early Years Practitioner Level 2 Apprenticeship

Holly was nominated for her award by Adele Royds, Learning & Skills Coach – Childcare, who comments:

Holly has been an outstanding student throughout her Level 2 journey. When she is in lessons, she is passionate and enthusiastic, takes part in all activities and is an outstanding role model to her peers. She is an asset to our team. I will miss having her in my lessons, but I know that she will excel at Level 3! Well done, Holly.

Holly was delighted to have won the award saying, “I’m proud that I have been recognised for all my hard work. It has really boosted my confidence.

Louise Ward, Lead Practitioner in Adult Care Level 4 Apprenticeship

Louise was nominated by Janet Pegg, Learning & Skills Coach – Health & Social Care. Janet’s reasons for nominating Louise were as follows:

Louise liaises with families, social workers and therapists, so her communication must be clear to ensure the best interests of the clients are met. Louise supervises staff and will listen to any concerns they may have, working with them to resolve them. Despite the pressure that comes with her role, she always submits quality work and remains on target, showing her extensive knowledge of the care sector.

Louise commented on her win, saying “I’m so proud to have been nominated. Janet has been so supportive, and my Apprenticeship is giving me the knowledge I need to be able to advance in my career.

Darcey Fishwick, Hair Professional Level 2 Apprenticeship

Darcey was nominated by Melissa Unwin, Lead Learning & Skills Coach - Professional Services. Melissa shares more below:

Darcey shines through her dedication, commitment, and enthusiasm towards her learning. She approaches each day with positivity and professionalism, always willing to take on new challenges. Nothing is ever too much trouble for her, both in the salon and college environments. She is developing into a confident, ambitious, and highly capable young Hairdresser.

Darcey added “I feel really grateful that my efforts have been noticed!”

A fantastic opportunity to celebrate Apprentices

Bury College’s Head of Apprenticeships, Laura Kirkpatrick, reflects on the Ceremony, saying "National Apprenticeship Week is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our incredible Apprentices and their impressive career progress.
