Our Film and Television course offers you tailored programme mixing lecturers, practical equipment teaching and location shooting.

This programme will develop you as a professional, self-reflective individual to meet the demands of employers in the film and television sector.

You will develop skills, knowledge and understanding in a range of disciplines from research, planning, screenwriting, single-camera location shooting, sound and lighting and post-production.

Our Digital Media Studio provides the perfect environment to launch your career in the film and television industries. State-of-the-art broadcast quality production equipment including a green screen television studio, professional editing facilities, and industry-level software will enable you to produce a top-class portfolio of work.  

You will gain an understanding of how the film and television industries work, and to learn how historical and current developments and contexts have informed production techniques.

You will have a balance between employability skills, industry knowledge, and confidence to have a major impact in a new era of technology. Above all, you will build a body of work that prepares you for entry into the media workplace or further higher education.

You are assessed through a range of internal assignments and may take a variety of forms, including practical and written. You will work individually and in groups based on the assignment brief given. Written work will include research projects, academic essays, self-reflection, and evaluations. You will receive on-going regular feedback on your progress, so you achieve the best possible results.

Throughout the course you will be guided and encouraged to follow your personal interests and develop your strengths through your assignments. Training in camera work, editing, screenwriting and journalism may be supported by technical help and hands-on workshop sessions. You will be given the opportunity to use broadcast-quality 4K camera kits, digital SLR cameras and professional edit suites including Mac computers and industry software (Adobe Master Suite, Da Vinci and Final Cut Pro X). You will be encouraged to submit your work to regional and national film festivals.

The Level 4 Higher National Certificate provides a solid grounding in Film and Television and can open doors to a wide range of careers in filmmaking, broadcasting and television production. You could also progress onto a full top-up degree at university where you can build on the skills and knowledge delivered on your course. Students have gone onto university to study a range of courses including BA/BSc (Hons) in Film Studies, BA/BSc (Hons) in Media Studies, BA/BSc (Hons) in Journalism, BA/BSc (Hons) in Filmmaking, BA/BSc (Hons) in Film and Television and many more.

You will also engage in the Positive Futures Careers Programme, developing key employability skills through a diverse range of activities including work placements, volunteering, employer talks, industry study visits and employment and university fairs.

64 UCAS tariff Points and a creative portfolio or equivalent in an appropriate Level 3 qualification. Five GCSEs at Grade 9-4 (A*-C) including English Language. You may be required to attend an interview and/or assessment. If you do not have the standard entry requirements but have the relevant work experience or an alternative qualification you may still be eligible for the course.

The majority of students will be able to access a Tuition Fee Loan from Student Finance England to pay their HE Course Fee.

Self-funding students may pay in 3 instalments in September (25%), January (25%) and April (50%).

Course Fee: £8,250.00 per year
