This is a course for those who have learning difficulties and/or disabilities who are considering employment. You will develop and acquire specific transferable skills required in the competitive world of work and take part in a meaningful internal and external work placements which match your aspirations and are within the local community.

The curriculum is tailored around the student group and individual outcomes, with the focus on improving and promoting working aspirations and employability skills. You will have the opportunity to gain an NOCN Award in Employability at Entry 3.

You will also study English and maths and dependent on individual assessment results could gain a Functional Skills or Stepping Skills Qualification at an appropriate level.

Possible units of study include: Health and safety in the Work place, Team working, Induction to work, Action Planning in the Workplace to Improve Performance, Using Writing Skills in the Workplace

Assessment in a variety of ways including: Photographic evidence, Observation/witness statements, Some written work, Tutor statements.

We will support you to find paid and voluntary work and to live independently in the future.

There will be trips and visits to develop you both socially and academically. There will be additional costs for these.

You will also engage in the Positive Futures Careers Programme, developing key employability skills through a diverse range of activities including work placements, volunteering, employer talks, industry study visits and employment and university fairs.

For Steps to Work: Entry is subject to interview, EHCP and Initial Assessments. Students should be interested in gaining employment and keen to undertake work placements.
