This is a course for those who have learning difficulties and/or disabilities. It will help those who wish to further develop their skills in independent living at home and in the community. To develop these skills, you will engage in community projects, access travel training where applicable and participate in a residential.

The curriculum is tailored around the student group and individual outcomes, with the focus on improving and promoting independence and building self-confidence.  You will have the opportunity to gain an AIM Entry Level Certificate or Diploma in Looking after Yourself and Your Home.You will also study English and maths dependent on individual assessment results and could gain a Functional Skills or Stepping Stones Qualification at an appropriate level.

Possible units of study include: Looking after yourself and your home, Eating out, Participation in team activities, Health and fitness, Making a simple meal, Eating a balanced diet.

Assessment is captured in a variety of ways including: Photographic evidence, observation/witness statements, some written work, tutor statements.

Life Challenge offers opportunities to take part in fundraising activities and work in the Smart Shop.  Further progression can lead to additional courses that focus on employment including Workability, Pre-Internship and Supported Internship.

There will be trips and visits to develop socially and academically. There will be additional costs for these.

You will also engage in the Positive Futures Careers Programme, developing key employability skills through a diverse range of activities including work placements, volunteering, employer talks, industry study visits and employment and university fairs.

For Life Challenge: Entry is subject to Interview, School/College Reference, EHCP (if applicable), initial assessments and students must be working at Entry Level. Students should be interested in gaining skills for living independently and engaging in community activities.
