For help and guidance with accessing your College IT account and systems, you can watch our how-to videos by expanding the sections below.
It is important that the first video you watch is ‘How to change your temporary password and set up MFA’ as you will not be able to access anything else until this has been done.
The FAQ section contains answers for the most common queries and issues, and should you require further help for an issue that hasn’t been listed, you can use the contact form at the bottom.
Click here for all portal links.
It is important to change your temporary password and set-up MFA first before you can access your College account. You will require the use of the Microsoft authenticator app on a compatible mobile device that supports the installation of apps.
If your mobile device does not support the installation of apps, you can choose alternative methods in the set-up such email address or security questions alongside mobile number.
You can use the Self-Service Password Reset portal to reset your password if you need to change it or have forgotten it, however you must have first set-up your MFA methods as detailed in the ‘How to change your temporary password and set-up MFA’.
The Remote Desktop Portal allows you to access a desktop experience where you can access your files, Office applications and very limited web browsing (Canvas VLE and Microsoft 365). You can access this on any device with a web browser (e.g. Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Safari etc), however, for the best experience we recommend using a desktop or laptop computer and not a mobile device.
Click the video to see how to connect to the eduroam WiFi network – the instructions are the same for both Apple (iOS) and Android devices.
You can set this up even before attending College for the first time, but you must have changed your temporary password first - see ‘How to change your temporary password and set up MFA’.
The eduroam network is available at other organisations such as Colleges, Universities and Hospitals and you will automatically connect to their WiFi network using your College credentials if they support the service.
A good way to create a strong but memorable password is to use 3 or more random words together with numbers and symbols which could be objects around you, for example: 3Redhousebananas27!
The password you choose must meet the following minimum requirements…
- At least 8 characters long
- Contain at least 1 capital letter
- Contain at least 1 number
- It must not contain your name or any common words (eg. password, apple, summer)
- Do not use passwords you already use such as for personal email and social media accounts
If you cannot reset your password yourself using SSPR, you can do this over the phone by contacting IT Services via the main College number (0161 280 8280) and after some verification, this can be reset for you. You will be given a temporary password which then must be changed to something of your choice as along as it meets the requirements listed above under ‘What are the password requirements?’.
Ensure the password you’re trying to use meets the requirements listed above in the ‘What are the password requirements?’ section by following the guidance on creating a strong but memorable password.
If you change your mobile phone or number, you will need to come into College and visit IT Services who will reset MFA on your College account and then you will be able to set it up on your new mobile phone. This cannot be reset over the phone or via email.
Please also ensure that you contact the Registry and Admissions department to update your contact details if these do change.
If you receive this type of message when accessing resources which use your College account, please ensure that you’re not using a VPN on your device as this will stop you accessing systems which use your College account.
If you receive a message that your account cannot be found or similar, please ensure that you’re entering your student email address as stated in your College emails, eg. studentID@student.burycollege.ac.uk and not your own personal email account such as Gmail, Hotmail or iCloud etc.
You have 30 days to set-up your multi-factor authentication methods from when your account is first created and after this time, it can only then be completed in College.
If our IT how-to guides or FAQs haven't answered your questions, please get in touch with IT Services by calling 0161 280 8280, and they will be able to support you.
