Bury College students and staff recently raised over £7,207, collecting for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal both on stands across the college and in Marks & Spencers in Bury town centre.
Public Services Level 3 and Level 2 students manned desks to help raise money, hand out poppies and raise awareness about the significance of Remembrance Day and why it is important that we honour those who fought for our freedom.
Our Public Services students also participated in in Bury’s Remembrance Parade on Sunday 10 November. Despite the weather, our students were very upbeat and proud to be involved in the parade.
Ryan Jennings (formerly of The Heys School), Level 2 Public Services student, said “This is my first experience of a Remembrance Parade, and I am amazed at how many members of the public have attended.”
Evie Later (formerly of St Gabriel's Roman Catholic High School), Level 3 Public Services student, laid the wreath at the War Memorial on behalf of all the Bury College students and staff, commenting on how moving the ceremony was.
We would like to send a huge thank you to all the staff and the students who have made this possible and helped to spread the importance of this day.
