We recently caught up with Bury College student Oladoyin Ojolowo, known as Temi, who is making strides in the healthcare sector through her T Level in Health. As part of her course, Temi completed a placement as an NHS Cadet, supporting the Adult Nursing team and gaining hands-on experience in patient care.
“As part of my placement, I’ve been exposed to multiple aspects of the healthcare system. I have been given an insight into what the NHS is and the different roles available.”
Temi spent ten weeks on the ward, developing key skills and gaining a deeper understanding of patient care.
“I had a 10-week experience on the ward and I loved it. I’ve gained insights on what patient care is and what my future in the NHS would be.”
Her T Level course has provided the perfect blend of academic learning and practical application, setting her on a clear pathway into healthcare.
“Doing my placement has opened my eyes to all the different positions within the NHS and the opportunities they have.”
Temi was drawn to the NHS for its values of compassion and teamwork, recognising it as the ideal environment to develop her skills and grow her experience.
During her placement, Temi honed essential skills such as communication, teamwork, and medical proofing, while also enjoying the opportunity to support patients in their recovery.
“My favourite part of working in the NHS is interacting with the patients, helping them to feel independent again.”
Temi’s experience has reinforced her ambition to become a paediatric nurse, and she values how her T Level placement is helping her achieve this goal.
“In the future, I want to be a paediatric nurse, and my T Level placement will help me achieve this.”
Temi’s journey highlights how T Levels equip young people with the skills and experience needed to build a strong future workforce for the NHS. The Northern Care Alliance is playing a crucial role in supporting students like Temi, helping them gain the knowledge and practical experience necessary for a successful healthcare career.
T Levels also provide a valuable pathway into a range of Allied Health Professions, including physiotherapy, paramedicine, occupational therapy, radiography, speech and language therapy, and more. These professions are essential to patient care and rehabilitation, and T Levels offer students a strong foundation to progress into these careers.
Temi’s inspiring journey showcases the impact of T Levels in bridging the gap between education and employment, offering students a fulfilling route into healthcare careers. As she continues working toward her goal of becoming a paediatric nurse, her experience as an NHS Cadet will serve as a strong foundation for her future success.
