National Apprenticeship Week was an exciting and inspiring time at Bury College, filled with activities that helped mark the occasion and celebrate the exceptional talent, dedication and achievements of Apprentices.
Bury College had the honour of welcoming several distinguished guests from the Government and Department for Education on 20th March 2025. The Chancellor, Rachel Reeves; and Secretary of State for Education, Bridget Phillipson, visited the college and had the opportunity to engage with students in the construction and joinery workshops. Local MP, James Frith, joined the visit and they discussed the students' future careers in the construction industry, providing invaluable insights and encouragement.
The same day saw the Permanent Secretary at the Department for Education (DfE), Susan Acland-Hood, and the Further Education Commissioner, Shelagh Legrave, visiting the college.
Bury College provides an education that aligns with learners’ aspirations and employers’ evolving needs. Our responsive curriculum prepares students for future careers, supported by industry-standard facilities that create realistic training environments. Bridget Phillipson, James Frith, Shelagh Legrave, and Susan Acland-Hood also toured the engineering facilities and the new Hair and Beauty salons. Whilst exploring the salons and treatment rooms, they witnessed the Greater Manchester Skills Competition, where students from across Greater Manchester showcased their talents in various hair and beauty competitions.
Our Positive Futures programme fosters commitment, collaboration, confidence, and resilience, equipping students with key study, employability, and life skills. Through work placements, volunteering, and industry visits, we ensure learners gain valuable experiences, preparing them for success in both work and life. The visit from these prominent figures underscores the College's commitment to excellence and its significant impact on education and skills development in the region.
