Last week Foundation Studies’ Student Voice department benefitted from a visit from Central Manchester Fire and Rescue Service firefighter Sam Slater.

Sam told Student Voice all about his job, what rescues he had been involved in and what the Fire Service offered, including home, animal, water and people rescue, and dealing with road traffic accidents and environmental issues.

Firefighter Slater also gave some important fire safety advice for our homes, including instructions to check your smoke alarms weekly, don’t overload your extension cables, and plan an escape route.

Debbie Willis, Foundation Studies lecturer, said, “The students thoroughly enjoyed the visit. They were given the opportunity to talk to Sam and look at various Fire safety equipment. Sam also visited New Horizons students and they were involved in an interactive session as part of his visit.”

Talks and visits are an essential part of the courses within Foundation Studies, making students aware of the different career options available to them and preparing them for real life.
