A former Bury College Health and Social Care student is realising her life-long career goal in Adult Nursing.
Shabrina Brown enrolled onto the Healthcare course at Bury College in 2011 and worked extremely hard towards achieving her Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications as well as her GCSE English and maths. Through dedication and determination, Shabrina then progressed onto Bury College University Centre and secured her Level 4 and Level 5 qualifications in Healthcare Practice.
From there, Shabrina went onto the University of Bolton and graduated in 2019 with a Degree in Health and Social Care BSc (Hons). Alongside her studies, the former Newhouse Academy pupil has also been working as a Healthcare Assistant at Royal Bolton Hospital. The ambitious healthcare practitioner is now embarking on a Degree in Adult Nursing at the University of Bolton.
Shabrina said, “I always dreamed of one day becoming a Nurse but I really struggled academically. My Bury College tutors believed in me and encouraged me to work towards my goal. I started at Level 1 and through the support of my tutors and my hard work I am now training to become an Adult Nurse.”
During her time at Bury College, Shabrina carried out lots of voluntary work which included a placement at the NHS working with the Intermediate Care team. Shabrina believes the training she received and hands-on experience working in hospitals paved the way for her to achieve her dream of one day becoming a qualified Nurse.
Shabrina added, “I gained so many skills during my time at Bury College. My confidence developed and I grew both professionally and personally. I honestly believe I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for Bury College.”
Jo Haslam, Bury College Health and Social Care Lecturer, is delighted to hear of Sabrina’s success. Jo said, “Shabrina has grown in confidence and developed her academic skills during her time at Bury College. Students who lack in confidence need support and encouragement to eventually progress onto their chosen careers, Shabrina is a prime example of this. I am very proud of her achievements and determination to get into the career I know she will excel at.”
