Amy Gregson has had a range of different roles and careers since she first started working.

However, there was one area that she has always been passionate about. That was working in catering, but she always lacked a formal qualification. That was until she first heard about Bury College’s range of adult courses back in January 2023.

Amy found out about a course after seeing an information stand in The Millgate Shopping Centre. From here, she first enrolled onto Level 1 Introduction to Culinary Skills and is now studying for her Patisserie and Confectionery Level 2 Certificate.

She is now thriving in an exciting role as a Preparation Chef at the Automatic Café.

Amy thoroughly enjoyed her return to education and believes it’s helped her find a job that she loves. She said: “The course gave me the confidence to ask to move from kitchen porter to working as an entry-level chef, they saw ability in me and have taken me on. I've learnt many baking skills, the one I'm most proud of is being able to make choux pastry which has always seemed so intimidating, but after receiving great support from my tutors, I’m now boring everyone around me with my éclairs and profiteroles!”

Debra Brown, Amy's Catering Tutor at Bury College, added: "She has fitted in really well since enrolling and is now flying on her Patisserie and Confectionery Level 2 Certificate. It's also been great to see her doing so well in her job and how passionate she is about it. We're all really proud of her."
