The Bury College University Centre Class of 2024 recently celebrated their graduation. Joined by their friends, family, and tutors, our students marked this truly special occasion.
A Bury College T Level Engineering student has recently completed an industry placement in the Orthotics department at Salford Royal.
Aaisha Ismail, currently in her first year at Bury College, was praised by the staff at Salford Royal and the wider team at the Northern Care Alliance.
Aaisha then spoke about the skills and knowledge that she gained: “My experience shadowing the staff in the Orthotics department at Salford Royal provided me with valuable insights into clinical engineering. I joined the clinicians in patient consultations which allowed me to witness firsthand the application of orthotic devices to address various medical needs. Seeing the design of different orthoses highlighted the importance of balancing functionality and simplicity and observing the production of in-house insoles in the workshop further deepened my understanding of the design of these.
“I appreciate the teams thorough explanations and guidance throughout my time there. The support truly enhanced my learning experience. Overall, my time at Salford Royal was incredibly informative and has inspired my interest in the field of clinical engineering.”
Michelle Jones, Practice Education Practitioner for the Northern Care Alliance, added: "It was a pleasure having Aaisha spend some time within our Department. She was professional, and friendly, mingled well with the team and was an overall lovely person. She was also inquisitive and asked appropriate questions."
The programme of work, funded via the Gatsby Foundation and Greater Manchester NHS Integrated Care Board, will drive the link between T-Levels and careers in Allied Health Professions within the NHS. This will map the qualifications to Allied Health Professional progression to Degree Programmes, Apprenticeships and Support Workers roles. It also wants to help identify new approaches that could lead to increased numbers of T Level industry placements available within the NHS to students.
