This qualification is intended for candidates who want to develop CBT skills and theory as an integral part of their professional counselling work.  It is designed to enhance the employability of counsellors in organisational settings and as independent practitioners by giving them a solid grounding in CBT skills and theory.

  • Working safely, legally and ethically as a counsellor using the CBT approach
  • Using the CBT framework to structure the therapeutic relationship
  • Integrating understanding of diversity in CBT work
  • Using a coherent CBT approach to work with individual clients and their needs
  • Working with self-awareness as a counsellor using the CBT approach
  • Using CBT theory, research and techniques coherently within counselling work
  • Monitoring and maintaining professional effectiveness as a counsellor using the CBT approach
  • Counselling placement (minimum of 30 hours one-to-one client work).
  • Supervision (the course will include group training supervision in addition to the candidate’s own supervision arrangements for their external work as per BACP/BABCP minimum requirements).

The suite of counsellor training courses at Bury College are delivered by expert practitioners who are currently practicing in the field of counselling and supervision. Trainers have a wealth of experience and knowledge that spans over more than thirty years in generic and specialist areas.

Must have passed Level 4 diploma in Therapeutic counselling or the RPL equivalent and be a practising Counsellor prior to starting course. Students will attend a Face to Face Recruitment Session and interview as part of assessment. Required to provide references from previous level 4 tutors.

Some courses are free for eligible learners, this is shown in the course details. You may be eligible for a free course if you are:

  • Unemployed and in receipt of an income-based benefit (for example JSA, ESA or Universal Credit)
  • Employed and earning less than the low-income threshold
  • Studying for your first full Level 2 qualification on an eligible legal entitlement course
  • Aged 19-23 and studying for your first full Level 3 qualification or on an eligible legal entitlement course
  • Your eligibility for a free course will be assessed and confirmed at enrolment.

ADVANCED LEARNER LOAN

Many of our adult learners pay for their Level 3 and above courses with an Advanced Learner Loan. If a loan is available this is indicated in the course details. It’s easy to apply, your household income isn’t taken into account and there are no credit checks. You only need to start paying back your Advanced Learner Loan when you are earning more than £25,000 per year.
