Your studies will focus on learning how to support the class teacher to enhance learning in small groups or individually. This will ensure that pupils understand the work set, know their learning objectives and make progress.
You will also need to be a good role model by promoting positive values and behaviours, acting with honesty and integrity, taking part in group activities, and contributing to planning and creating activities.
The course allows for progression onto university or higher apprenticeships. Your future role is very much about encouraging pupils to progress and develop in a positive, nurturing, and safe environment.
You will develop your knowledge and understanding in the following core areas:

- Safeguarding, health and safety, and wellbeing

Your studies will focus on:
- How to support the class teacher to enhance children’s education, individually and in groups
- Planning, providing and reviewing educational opportunities in collaboration with teachers and other adults
- Safeguarding and promoting the health, safety and wellbeing of children and young people
- Recognising, adapting and responding to individual children’s needs, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), to support development and access to the curriculum
