Our specialist Hair and Media Make-up qualifications are for those who aspire to work towards becoming a professional Makeup and Hair Artist, working in a range of media make-up related industries.

We will help you develop skills and techniques to carry out professional treatments following strict industry standard health and safety requirements. The topics undertaken will develop your skills, knowledge and professional confidence to ensure that you are fully equipped to enter the world of work or progress on to higher education.

The topics studied on this course are:

  • Working in the beauty related industries
  • Follow health and safety practice in the salon
  • Client care and communication in beauty related industries
  • Apply make-up
  • Provide eyelash and eyebrow treatments
  • Create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector
  • The art of photographic make-up
  • Body art design
  • Apply skin tanning techniques
  • The art of colouring hair
  • The art of dressing hair
  • Make and style a hair addition

How you will be assessed:

  • Practical assessments
  • Online examinations

You have the unique opportunity to progress onto the Foundation Degree in Media Make-up at Bury College University Centre and/or progress into careers including:

  • Make-up Consultant
  • TV, Film and Theatre work in make-up
  • Make-up Artist
  • Salon Owner

There may be an additional cost for kits and a uniform package.

For Level 2 Hair and Media Make-up: 4 GCSEs at grade 9-3 (including Maths and English Language) OR GCSE 9-3 in Maths & English Language and a Pass on the Level 1 Introduction to the Hair & Beauty Sector Course.
