
Bury College recently hosted a Higher Education Fair for its current learners, welcoming representatives from over 20 different universities.
Jessica Claxton-Daniels is not only thriving on her Sports course at Bury College but is also working towards a dream of being a professional climber.
Some of Jessica’s career highlights so far include being selected for the Junior Great Britain team in 2019 and the GB National Development Squad: Youth A Category in 2022. Exceptional achievements for someone who is only in her first year of college.
The former Phillips High School pupil was also thankful to the College for allowing her to develop a skill set that will be beneficial to her once she has finished her course. Jessica added: “Bury College has allowed me to pursue an exciting career path in sport. They have also allowed me to take an extra qualification in Sports Coaching.”
Jessica’s tutor Lauren Glossop said: “It’s been brilliant having Jessica on our Level 3 Sport course bringing her unique knowledge of climbing as a competitive sport, she has given us some valuable insight which has been great to integrate into classroom discussions for her peers. Jessica is the first Climber on an Elite British pathway that we have had in the department, watching her balance her studies with training and competition is truly remarkable. Jessica is a great demonstration of how young elite athletes can maintain academic development throughout the high-intensity and demanding schedules that are required. We are really proud of her achievements, we have no doubt this is just the start of a prosperous climbing career, we look forward to continuing our support for Jessica throughout her studies.”

Two dedicated apprentices working in a local nursery are proving that it’s never too late to upskill, thanks to the Early Years Level 5 Apprenticeship offered at Bury College.
Our art students have brought a splash of colour and creativity to Bury Hospice with a striking new mural celebrating the spirit of the local community. Painted by students from the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, the mural features vibrant hydrangeas and iconic Manchester Bees, symbolising unity, resilience, and the six towns of Bury.
