Applied Science lies at the core of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). This course will provide you with analytical and problem-solving skills, teaching you to think, investigate and find solutions. This course allows you the flexibility to specialise in your chosen Science; Biology, Chemistry or Physics.

You will benefit from our state-of-the art laboratories and industry standard equipment. Practical work is an integral part of these courses, so you will benefit from many outof-the-classroom learning opportunities.

Qualification studied:

  • BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Applied Science
  • A-level equivalent to be taken as part of an A-level Study Programme

The topics studied on this course are:

  • Principles and applications of science
  • Practical scientific procedures and techniques
  • Science investigation skills
  • One optional unit (you can specialise in Biology, Chemistry or Physics)

Assessment is 58% exam and 42% coursework

A-level Sciences are excellent qualifications to have for a wide variety of higher education courses and careers. Traditional routes following A-level Sciences include:

  • Biological and Zoological development

  • Sustainable development
  • Environmental management/education
  • Psychology
  • Biomedical Sciences
  • Marine Biology
  • Life Sciences
