Our high-quality teacher training course can support you in achieving your goal of teaching in the post-compulsory sector of education. This includes: adult and community education, sixth form colleges, universities, the prison and probation services, pre-employment training and work-based learning.

Full-time: Classes will take place 9:30am - 4:00pm two days a week. In addition you should also be available for up to two-three additional days for the duration of the programme for teaching practice.

Part-time: Classes will take place 3.00pm-7.30pm one day a week. You should also be available for either one full day or two half days for the duration of the programme for teaching practice.

You will be required to undertake a minimum of 250 hrs, equivalent to two days a week teaching practice placement. This will include a minimum of 150 hours direct teaching experience and must include a minimum of 20 hours with a different sector/provider. A further 100 hours will be evidenced against the wider teaching role.

You will be assessed by a variety of methods including presentations, observations, case studies and written assignments.

Completing your teacher training course at Bury College University Centre means that our highly experienced tutors can support you not only academically but also with on-the-job training. During your studies we will endeavour to do all that we can to find you a teaching placement within the college.

This course prepares you for a teaching career in the post compulsory sector. It is a requirement that all new FE teachers must complete a teacher training qualification as the first step in obtaining QTLS (Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills). The course does not lead to Qualified Teacher status (QTS) to teach in schools. However, since April 2012 those with QTLS are allowed to teach in schools on the same basis as those with QTS for 14+ students.

You will also engage in the Positive Futures Careers Programme, developing key employability skills through a diverse range of activities including work placements, volunteering, employer talks, industry study visits and employment and university fairs.

In order to study this course you must already have a degree in a subject that is relevant to the area in which you teach in. This course requires a health declaration and DBS clearance prior to starting.You are also required to have a grade 4-9/A*-C in English and Maths GCSE or an acceptable equivalent at Level 2.

The majority of students will be able to access a Tuition Fee Loan from Student Finance England to pay their HE Course Fee.

Self-funding students may pay in 3 instalments in September (25%), January (25%) and April (50%).
