Students during a practical

Bury College University Centre has launched a brand-new higher-level Applied Sciences qualification which can lead Science enthusiasts to a career within their chosen discipline.

From the next academic year, the university centre will be offering the Applied Sciences HNC where students will have the choice to specialise in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Food Science, Technology and Nutrition or Forensic Science.

This new course also offers an exciting progression opportunity. Those students who successfully complete the Applied Sciences HNC Chemistry pathway will have a guaranteed place at the University of Salford on the second year of a Chemistry BSc Hons. Those students who successfully complete the Applied Sciences HNC Biology pathway, also have a guaranteed place at the University of Salford on the second year of one of the following degrees; Biology BSc Hons, Zoology BSc Hons, Human Biology and Infectious Diseases BSc Hons.

This new collaboration allows students to use their first year to stay at home, study locally and benefit from reduced university fees, with the option to then progress onto further study and secure a degree recognised by employers and industry experts.

This career-enhancing qualification, which is validated by BTEC, will give students the opportunity to further their knowledge of scientific disciplines and prepare them for an innovative career within Science. The course has been designed to give undergraduates the experience of working in industry standard settings.
