Bury College Art students bring colour to Rose Court Care Home
Our second-year Textiles and Fine Art pathway students recently visited Rose Court Care Home to run a series of arts and crafts workshops.
Our professional Barbering courses aim to provide you with a range of essential practical skills and relevant knowledge, which will lead to employment or further training within the booming Barbering industry.
The creative skills you will develop include carrying out services such as: shampooing, conditioning, cutting men’s hair, cutting men’s facial hair, drying and finishing men’s hair and creating basic outlines in the hair.
You will be invited to take part in a range of enrichment opportunities which include: competitions, masterclasses with industry experts, employer input, trips and visits to see industry-based activities, inclusion in sporting/exercise activities, and tutorial sessions covering a range of topical issues. You will benefit from training in a real working salon alongside tutors who have a depth of industry knowledge and experience.
The topics studied on this course are:
- Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
- Cut hair using basic barbering techniques
- Cut facial hair to shape using basic techniques
- Dry and finish men’s hair
- Create basic outlines and detailing in hair
- Advise and consult with clients
- Develop and maintain effectiveness at work
- Assist with shaving service
- Reception duties
How you will be assessed:
- Practical assessments
- Online examinations
You have the unique opportunity to progress onto a bespoke Salon Management degree at Bury College University Centre and/or progress into careers including:
- Barber
- Salon Owner
- Freelance Stylist
- Cruise Liner Stylist
- Salon Manager
- Manufacturer Technician
Course cost is free for school leavers and free for eligible learners. £1286 if not eligible.
A Level 2 kit will cost approximately £126.00. A female uniform will cost
£48.75 and consists of a tunic, leggings and ballet shoes. A male uniform will
cost £7.50 and consists of a polo shirt. Own smart black trousers and smart
black shoes complete the uniform. No trainers or sports shoes are allowed.
You should have excellent personal appearance and
communication skills, a professional manner, good attitude and commitment to
achieve on this course.

For Level 2 Barbering: 4 GCSEs at grade 9-3 (including Maths and English Language) OR GCSE 9-3 in Maths & English Language plus a Pass on the Introduction to the Hair & Beauty Sector Course and successful completion of the Skills Test.
